Chhatra League activist dies hours after arrest with cannabis in Faridpur
According to police, a team of the district Detective Branch conducted a drive around 2am today in an open space on the north side of Pranto’s house in Gondardia
A Chhatra League activist died at Faridpur Medical College Hospital today (21 June), around five hours after his arrest while in possession of cannabis at his home in Madhukhali upazila of the district.
The deceased was Md Ishtiaque Ahmed Pranto, son of late Eskender Haider of Gondardia area under Madhukhali municipality.
Confirming the death, Faridpur Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Mahmudul Hasan said, "District DB personnel arrested an accused with cannabis from Madhukhali last night. Later, he fell ill and was taken to Faridpur Medical College Hospital, where he died while undergoing treatment.
"We recovered the body and kept it at the morgue for autopsy to determine the exact cause of death."
According to police, a team of the district Detective Branch conducted a drive around 2am today in an open space on the north side of Pranto's house in Gondardia.
During the drive, police said they arrested Pranto with 100 grams of cannabis.
He was later brought to Faridpur and kept in the custody of the district DB for legal action, police added.
Pranto's uncle, former local councillor Mirza Abu Zafar, said, "A team of the district DB arrested my nephew Pranto last night.
"This morning, we received news that he had died at Faridpur Medical College Hospital. After hearing the news, family members rushed to Faridpur. I am sick and staying at home, so I do not know anything more."
Police sources said Pranto fell ill while in DB custody. He was first taken to Faridpur General Hospital and later transferred to Faridpur Medical College Hospital for better treatment, where he died while undergoing treatment.
