Case filed against 8 over murder of Primeasia University student Parvez
The case statement claims Tushar and Hridoy, two of the eight accused, are leaders of the Students Against Discrimination (SAD) in the capital's Banani

A case has been filed against eight individuals for their alleged involvement with the murder of Zahidul Islam Parvez, 23, a student of Primeasia University.
The case was filed by Parvez's cousin, Humayun Kabir, at Banani Police Station.
The accused named in the case are Meheraj Islam (20), Abu Jafar Giffari (20), Md Mahathir Hasan (20), Sobhan Niyaz Tushar (24), Hridoy Miyaji (23), Rifat (21), Ali (21), and Fahim (22).
The case statement claims Tushar and Hridoy are leaders of the Students Against Discrimination (SAD) in the capital's Banani.
It says that around 3pm yesterday (19 April), Parvez was talking with his friends and laughing in front of a shop locally known as "Alaminer Dokan" in front of the Rancon Building opposite the university.
Two female students from the University of Scholars were standing behind them. At that time, Meheraj, Abu Jafar, and Mahathir approached Parvez and asked why they were laughing.
This led to an argument between Parvez and his friends and the accused named in the case. Three university teachers later intervened and resolved the dispute.
Around 4:40pm, when Parvez and his friends were talking on the road in front of the university, the accused, along with other unidentified individuals, allegedly chased them, according to the case statement.
It says as Parvez and his friends were running into Primeasia University, Meheraj, Abu Jafar, Mahathir Hasan, and Rifat caught Parvez and his friend Tarikul Islam at the university gate.
The accused, along with unidentified accomplices, allegedly assaulted both of them brutally. Jafar and Mahathir allegedly held Parvez firmly, as Meheraj allegedly used a sharp weapon to confirm his death, reads the case document.
It says they also attacked Tarikul Islam with sharp weapons with the intent to kill him, causing serious injuries to the middle of his head and below his left elbow.
Inspector AKM Moinuddin of Banani Police Station said that a case has been filed over Parvez's murder.
"We are investigating the matter, and efforts are underway to arrest the accused," he said.
