Businessman hacked to death in front of his house in Narsingdi

A businessman was hacked to death at the gate of his house in Palash upazila of Narsingdi last night (5 January) while returning home after closing his shop, according to Prothom Alo.
The incident took place at around 9pm in Sultanpur village of Char Sindur union. The attackers could not be immediately identified.
The deceased was Sharot Chakraborty alias Moni, 40, son of Mohan Chakraborty of North Sadarchar village in neighbouring Shibpur upazila.
He ran an ancestral grocery shop at Char Sindur Bazar in Palash and was also involved in renting out excavators.
Citing police and family members, Prothom Alo reported that Sharot had another house in Sultanpur village, where he raised rabbits. Last night, he was returning to that house after closing his shop.
As he reached the gate of the house, assailants struck him on the back of the head with a sharp weapon.
He collapsed on the ground, bleeding heavily, while the attackers fled the scene. Locals rushed to the spot after hearing his screams.
Sharot was taken to Palash Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead. Family members later identified the body.
After an inquest, police sent the body to the Narsingdi Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Abdullah Al Mamun, residential medical officer of the Palash Upazila Health Complex, said Sharot was brought to the hospital dead.
He said the back of the victim's head had a deep wound of about two and a half inches, and excessive bleeding was suspected to have caused the death.
Palash Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shahed Al Mamun said police have launched an investigation and are working to identify and arrest those involved.
