The Bangladesh Army uncovered a secret hideout of the United People's Democratic Front (UPDF) during an operation in the dense forest of Jubneshwar Para of Panchhari Upazila in Khagrachhari this morning (6 October).
During the raid, the army recovered one pistol, one magazine, two rounds of ammunition, 15 banners, two walkie-talkie chargers, two mobile phones, sharp weapons, and other items used by UPDF members, according to a press release by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Directorate.
It also said that local UPDF group commander Suman Chakma managed to flee the scene at the time.
According to the release, the UPDF coerced local men, women, students, and schoolgirls to chant anti-army slogans to disrupt the operation.
Reports indicate that the group and its affiliates have been involving women and children in activities aimed at destabilising the Chattogram Hill Tracts, it said.
Operations are ongoing to locate and apprehend the fleeing armed UPDF members.
