9-year-old boy's body recovered from Jatrabari madrasah
Police recovered the hanging body of a nine-year-old boy from a bathroom at a madrasah in the capital's Jatrabari area yesterday evening (20 December).
The deceased was identified as Modassir, 9, said Shamim Hossain, assistant commissioner (Wari Division) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
He told The Business Standard that after receiving information, the police recovered the body from the institute named Madrasatul Itqan Li Ulumil Quran located on Kutubkhali Road.
Whether or not it was a murder or suicide is being investigated, the police official said.
The child's body was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for an autopsy after an inquest was done.
Madrasah authorities claimed that the child went to the bathroom alone in the afternoon. Noticing he did not come out after a long time, they broke the door and found him hanging. They claimed the child wrapped a gamcha around a hook in the bathroom and hung himself.
Jatrabari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Raju Ahmed said the madrasah authorities took down the body before the police reached.
The child's family alleged that the child was murdered, claiming there were scratches on his neck.
Until the filing of this report after Saturday midnight, the child's family members and the madrasah administration representatives were at the Jatrabari Police Station.
