5 fraud gang members beaten on bus in Hatirjheel, victim hospitalised

Five members of a fraud gang were beaten by passengers on a bus in Hatirjheel, Dhaka, after one of their victims fell unconscious yesterday (8 October) afternoon at Rainbow Crossing in Hatirjheel.
The victim, Abdul Mannan, 42, was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for treatment.
He is a resident of Sripur village in Mehendiganj, Barisal, and works as a caretaker in Sector 9 of Dhaka.
The arrested gang members are Abdul Rashid, 47; Kamal, 45; Bellal, 24; Nur Alam, 46; and Usman, 40.
According to eyewitness Hamim, the gang tricked Mannan into consuming drugs on the Gazipur Transport bus and he became unconscious while other passengers noticed and caught five suspects, beating them before informing the police.
Tk59,500 and a mobile phone were recovered from them and handed to police.
The accused Bellal Gharmi told police that the gang, eight in total, boarded the bus at Jasimuddin.
Another accused, Nur Alam, said that he was sitting beside Mannan but did not give him anything.
A dispute arose between Bellal and Nur Alam as they tried to blame each other.
SI Rajib Hossain of Hatirjheel Police Station said, "Legal action will be taken after preliminary investigation. Abdul Mannan remains admitted in the medicine ward, and the five injured suspects received treatment in the emergency department before being brought to the police station."
