5 arrested over armed attack, looting and attempted murder at BSRM factory in Chattogram

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-7), Chattogram, has arrested five individuals, including the prime accused Md Tajul Islam, in connection with an armed attack, looting and attempted murder at the BSRM Steel Rolling-2 and Steel Melting-2 factories under Jorarganj Police Station in Mirsarai.
They were arrested from Chattogram city's Kazir Dewri area last night (4 August), according to a press release from RAB-7 press wing.
According to RAB, on 1 August, a group of 18 to 20 armed assailants, led by local criminal "Haq Saab", stormed the factory premises with locally made firearms, machetes, ramdas, iron rods and other sharp weapons.
During the attack, the gang vandalized office rooms, looted a significant quantity of steel scrap, roofing sheets from an under-construction boundary wall and a sum of cash.
They also assaulted several factory staff including duty officer Md Shah Alam, security guard Morshed and dump truck driver Sohag, leaving them with serious injuries.
Before fleeing the scene, the attackers held the security personnel at gunpoint and threatened to kill workers if the construction of the boundary wall continued. They even searched for some security staff by name.
Following the incident, the factory's manager Md Delwar Hossain Molla filed a case at Jorarganj Police Station on 3 August , accusing 32 named and 15 to 20 unidentified individuals. The case was registered under sections 143, 347, 323, 324, 307, 379, 427, 506, and 34 of the Penal Code (Case No. 02, dated 3 August, 2025).
Acting on the request of the investigating officer of the case, RAB-7 launched an intelligence-led operation to locate the suspects. Acting on a tip-off, RAB learned that prime accused Md Tajul Islam, also known as Sattar, was hiding in the Kazir Dewri area under Kotwali Police Station in Chattogram city.
At around 8:20pm yesterday, a RAB team conducted a raid in the area and arrested him.
Later, based on information provided by Tajul, two other RAB teams carried out follow-up raids in the Cafe Layla area of Kazir Dewri around 8:30 pm the same evening. These operations led to the arrest of four more accused—Md Iman, Md Sadek Hossain, Md Hasan and Md Mahbub.
The arrested individuals have been handed over to Jorarganj Police Station for further legal action. RAB-7 confirmed that their investigation is ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects involved in the attack.
