A total of 40 leaders and activists of Awami League, its youth wing Jubo League, and its banned student wing Chhatra League have been arrested from various areas of Chattogram in the last 24 hours from yesterday afternoon to this afternoon (6 February).

The Public Relations and Media Wing of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) confirmed the arrests through a press statement. 

The CMP said the arrests were made as part of a special operation conducted by CMP to arrest the accused in cases filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act and the Special Powers Act, including those linked to attacks on protesters during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.

According to the statement, multiple cases have been filed against those arrested, and investigations are ongoing. Law enforcement authorities have indicated that further arrests may follow as part of the ongoing crackdown.

Here are the arrestees as stated in the press statement today:

Sadarghat Police arrested Haji Jafar Ahmed, 62, former president of 14 Bhati Khain Union Awami League, and Mohammad Amzad Hossain Shipon, 40.

In Double Mooring, police arrested Mahafuzur Rahman Farhad, 35 and Syed Mahmudul Hasan, 38, while Akbar Shah police took Md Abdur Rahman Sabuj, 36 and Md. Safiul Alam Sabuj, 55, into custody. 

Bayezid Bostami Police arrested Md Selim, 48, and Panchlaish Police arrested Md Abdur Rahim, 49, the Relief and Social Welfare Secretary of Chattogram South District Awami League.

Mohammad Arif, 31, former general secretary of Bandar Thana Chhatra League, was arrested by Pahartali Police, while Karnaphuli Police arrested Md Shafi Alam, 40, secretary of the Forest and Environment Affairs Committee of Char Patharghata Union Awami League.

In the same raid, Abdul Shukkur, 58, vice president of Ward 1 Bara Uthan Union Awami League, was also arrested.

Chandgaon police arrested five individuals, including Imtiaz Hossain, 28, Asifur Rahman Fahim, 27, Md Shahidul Islam, 30, and Md Nasir Uddin, 45.

Kotwali Police arrested Md Zahed, 25, Forman Ahmed, 37, and Nizam Uddin Rubel, 40, while Raozan Police apprehended Md Farhadul Islam, 45, the president of Raozan Upazila Awami League.

Other arrests include Md Faruk, 45, general secretary of the K-Unit of Ward 38 Awami League, who was arrested by Bandar Police, and Md Nurul Alam alias Tendl, 62, vice president of Ward 41 Awami League, arrested by Patenga Police.

Chawk Bazar Police arrested Md Farhan Reza, 22, while EPZ police arrested Md. Emran, 25, Md Nasir Uddin, 45, and Md Shahab Uddin, 36. Khulshi Police arrested two youths, Sahidul Islam Minhaj, 19 and Rashedul Azad Faim, 18, and Halishahar Police arrested Karimul Haque, 48, Adnan Mahafuz alias Sajib, 42, and Rezaul Karim alias Imran, 53.
