3 held over killing of listed 'criminal' Sarwar in Ctg

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested two people in connection with the killing of alleged gangster Sarwar Hossain Babla, who was shot dead during a public gathering for BNP's Chattogram-8 candidate Ershad Ullah in Chalitatali Khandkarpara on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Bayezid Police Station Officer‑in‑Charge (OC) Jasim Uddin told The Business Standard that they have also detained one person in connection with this incident.
The arrestees are Helal Hossain alias Machh Helal and Alauddin. They were arrested last night (6 November) from the port city's Bayezid area.
RAB‑7 Commander Lieutenant Colonel Hafizur Rahman confirmed the development at a press conference today (7 November).
The officer said, "Though the accused denied involvement during initial interrogation, they admitted to associating with other accused in the case, including fugitive gangster Sajjad Ali."
Earlier on 5 November, Babla was shot dead in public during the election campaign of Chattogram Metropolitan BNP Convener and party‑nominated candidate for Chattogram‑8, Ershad Ullah.
Ershad Ullah and two others were injured at the time.
Less than 24 hours later, at the same place, an auto‑rickshaw driver named Md Idris Ali was shot.
According to the RAB, one person named Arman Ali has been arrested in the incident. During interrogation, the arrested confessed that notorious 'criminal' Shahidul Islam alias Buissya and Mizan were involved in the shooting.
Meanwhile, five people were injured in a shootout between two factions of the BNP in the district's Raozan last night. RAB has arrested three individuals in connection with the case.
RAB also recovered a foreign pistol and ammunition from their possession.
