Three individuals have been arrested for allegedly murdering the owner of a factory in Old Dhaka's Kamrangirchar after he intervened to stop them from gambling.

"The incident happened last Friday [6 December] at a printing press factory at the Hasan Nagar area in the city's Kamrangirchar," the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Lalbagh Division Md Jasim Uddin said at a press briefing at the DMP Media Center today (11 December).

The arrestees are Miraj Mia, an employee of the factory, and his friends Md Shipon alias Samrat, 25, and Md Rifat, 19.

Quoting the initial interrogation of the accused, the DC said, "Shipon, Miraj, Rifat, and two or three other absconding individuals were gambling inside the factory. When the factory owner Noor Alam attempted to intervene, they became furious and killed him by striking him on the head with a hammer and stabbing him multiple times.

"They then dismembered the body in the bathroom and buried the body parts in a bag inside the factory," he added.

The officer further said through initial investigations and technological assistance, they identified the individuals involved and arrested them.

"Further legal proceedings are underway in this case. Our efforts are underway to investigate the incident thoroughly and arrest the remaining suspects."
