Police arrested two alleged teenage-gang leaders in Maijdee under Noakhali Sadar upazila on Thursday.

The arrested were identified as Mehedi Hasan Shawon and Hirody, hailing from Nespur area in the upazila.

Locals caught them from a residential hotel and later handed them over to the police, said Abdul Baten, officer-in-charge of Noakhali Sadar Police Station.

Quoting the locals, police said Sajib, a youth from Chandi union of Hatiya upazila, came to Noakhali Super Market at noon for shopping. After shopping, he was waiting for transportation near Mohammadi Hotel in the area.

Suddenly, a group of teenagers numbering six to seven arrived there, abducted Sajib, and brought him to Hotel Rupashi.

The gang then demanded TK50,000 as ransom. But Sajib refused to pay money and screamed.

Hearing screams, locals rushed to the spot and caught two leaders of the gang red-handed. Other members of the gang, however, managed to flee.

A case was filed under speedy trial act. The duo were produced before a court that sent them to jail, said Abdul Baten.

Superintendent of Police Alamgir Hossain said anyone who commits crimes will be punished.
