18 killed in road crashes nationwide in six days

At least 18 people were killed and dozens injured in separate road accidents across the country in the past six days.
The crashes, involving buses, motorcycles, cars, and autorickshaws, occurred in Bagerhat, Narayanganj, Narsingdi, Khulna, Kishoreganj, Chandpur, Sylhet, Thakurgaon, Mymensingh and Brahmanbaria.
In Bagerhat, one person was killed and 20 others injured when a bus lost control and hit a tree on the Dhaka-Khulna highway in Fakirhat upazila today, reports BSS.
The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately. Six of the severely injured were transferred to Khulna Medical College Hospital.
In Narayanganj's Rupganj upazila, two people died in a head-on collision between a battery-run easy bike and a microbus on Monday.
The deceased were Shahriar Hasan Akash, 29, and the unidentified easy bike driver.
Confirming the incident, Rupganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Liakat Ali told TBS that the microbus fled the scene.
The easy bike driver died on the spot while Shahriar was declared dead at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
In Narsingdi, three youths were killed when a bus hit their motorcycle in the Bandar Dia area of Shibpur upazila on Monday. The victims were identified as Saiful Islam, 22, Ashiq, 22, and Apu, 20, all residents of Mirzakanadi village in Narsingdi.
They were returning home after buying sports equipment, police said. Two died at the upazila health complex, while the third succumbed to his injuries on the way to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
In Khulna, two people were killed when a truck collided with an easy bike near Rupsha Bridge in the early hours of Monday.
The deceased were Rafiqul Islam, 56, the driver, and Tanzil, 12, a passenger. Four other passengers were injured.
Lobonchora Police Station OC Md Abdur Rahim confirmed the accident and said the victims were from Chandpur, travelling to Khulna.
In Kishoreganj, a woman named Joynab Begum, 30, was killed when a CNG-run auto-rickshaw veered off the road and fell into a ditch on the Kishoreganj-Bhairab highway on Monday. Her two children were also injured in the incident.
Kishoreganj Model Police Station OC Abdullah Al Mamun confirmed the incident and said the body was kept at the hospital morgue.
In Chandpur, a bus collided head-on with a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Matlab Dakkhin upazila, killing two people and injuring six others on Sunday.
Siddiqur Rahman, 50, the rickshaw driver, died on the spot. Another passenger, Tapan Chowdhury, 35, later died at Chandpur Government General Hospital. Two critically injured children were transferred to Dhaka for treatment.
Police seized the two vehicles from the spot.
In Sylhet, a female doctor, Rahima Khatun Jessy, 27, died after being hit by a truck while riding a rickshaw at Jitu Mia Point in Sylhet on Sunday. She was an intern at Sylhet Women's Medical College Hospital.
The rickshaw puller was critically injured. Police said the truck driver fled the scene, and legal proceedings are underway.
In Thakurgaon, a van driver, Shariful Islam, 35, died following a head-on collision with an auto-charger on Women's College Road in Pirganj upazila early on Saturday.
Confirming the incident, Pirganj Police Station OC Tajul Islam said the victim was referred to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital after initial treatment but later died from his injuries.
In Mymensingh, a bus crashed into a mosque beside the Mymensingh-Sherpur road in Tarakanda upazila, killing Pervez Mia, 35, and his 8-year-old son Hasan on Friday.
The accident occurred when the bus driver lost control at around 8:30am and hit the wall of the mosque beside the road. Twelve others were injured and taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, according to UNB.
In Brahmanbaria, three passengers of a CNG-run auto-rickshaw were killed in a head-on collision with a bus on the Nabinagar-Companiganj road in Brahmanbaria on Thursday.
The deceased were Abul Kashem, Sohag Mia and Nurul Alam, all from the upazila. Nabinagar police recovered the bodies from the scene.
