17 crude, petrol bombs recovered in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar; Rayer Bazar memorial cordoned off after similar like objects found
SRB also found 5-7 suspected crude bombs at Rayer Bazar Intellectual Martyrs’ Cemetery, where the area was cordoned off for examination.
The Special Response Battalion (SRB-2) today (28 September) recovered 17 crude and petrol bombs from the old trade fair grounds in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, while objects resembling crude bombs were later found at the Rayer Bazar Martyred Intellectuals Memorial.
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Bomb Disposal Unit subsequently defused the 15 cocktails and two petrol bombs recovered from Sher-e-Bangla Nagar. The Rayer Bazar memorial area was cordoned off as law enforcement launched an operation there.
Acting on a tip-off, SRB-2 raided the old trade fair grounds yesterday afternoon and recovered the explosives. Law enforcement personnel immediately cordoned off the area before the Bomb Disposal Unit arrived and defused them in the evening.
Additional DIG Noymul Hasan, commander of SRB-2, confirmed the recovery to The Business Standard, saying the explosives had been defused.
It was not immediately known who had left them there.
Later in the evening, SRB-2 conducted another operation following a tip-off and recovered around five to seven objects resembling crude bombs from the Rayer Bazar Martyred Intellectuals Memorial.
As of 8:45pm, the area remained cordoned off. The Bomb Disposal Unit had been notified to examine and defuse the objects.
Hasan Muhammad Muhtarim, commander of SRB-2's Special Company, said the exact nature of the objects would be known after the Bomb Disposal Unit examined them.
