A Kishoreganj court on today (17 july) sentenced 13 people to death for killing a farmer in 2016.

Kishoreganj Senior District and Session Judge Muhammad Nurul Amin Biplab handed down the punishment and fined the convicts Tk 10,000 each.

The convicts were Abdur Rauf, Alfatun, Azizul Haque, Haidar Ali, Angur Mia, Royal, Reza Mia, Alauddin Member, Ayatul Haque Malam, Russel, Sohel, Riyad, Zahirul Islam.

Among the convicts six were tried in absentia.

According to the prosecution, Syed Ali, 30, a farmer of Deupur Kajlahati village in Karimganj upazila in Kishoreganj district, was stabbed by the convicts over previous enmity at Niamatpur Bus Stand Bazar in the upazila on 23 March 2016, leaving him injured.

Later, he was taken to Karimganj Upazila Health Complex where he succumbed to his injuries on 29 March 2026.

Parveen Sultana, elder sister of Ali filed the case with Karimganj Police Station on 25 March 2016.
