Youth sentenced to life in prison in Jashore over rape of cousin in 2020
A Jashore court has sentenced a youth to life in prison in a case lodged over the rape of his cousin in 2020.
The convict Shamim Hasan, hailing from Abhaynagar, was also ordered to pay Tk50,000 in fine, default of which would result in an additional three months in jail.
Judge Golam Kabir of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-1 gave the verdict this afternoon.

Speaking to the media, Public Prosecutor Abdul Latif Lata said Shamim's cousin had passed her JSC exams in 2020.
On 18 August of that year, at around 9:30am, Shamim called the girl to his house, locked her in and raped her.
He threatened her not to tell anyone about the incident and let her go. But the girl returned home and told her sister and father.
On the same day, she filed a rape case against Shamim at the Abhaynagar Police Station.
The public prosecutor also said on 30 November 2021, the police filed a charge sheet against Shamim in this case.
After a long trial, the judge sentenced the accused to life imprisonment and then ordered him to be sent to jail.
