A Dhaka court today (18 November) imposed a travel ban on former minister and Awami League advisory council member Amir Hossain Amu, his daughter Sumaia Hossain, assistant private secretary (APS) Majid Mahmud Kiron and Kiron's wife Rafeja Majid over graft allegations.

Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Jakir Hossain passed the order, allowing a plea from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Deputy director and investigation officer Rezaul Karim filed the plea, saying the veteran Awami League leader allegedly amassed huge illegal wealth through appointment and tender trades and other corruption and embezzled public money.

The ACC is probing the allegations, and the accused can flee the country to evade justice.

So, the plea said, a travel embargo should be imposed against them to prevent them from escaping justice.
