Savar police killing: 2 more accused placed on 5-day remand
The latest remand orders bring the number of accused arrested in the case to 12.
A Dhaka court today (10 September) placed two more accused on five-day remand in a case over the killing of Special Branch (SB) Sub-Inspector Md Altaf Hossain, who was allegedly beaten to death in Savar's Aminbazar on 5 September.
The accused are Kashem Ali, 38, and Dadi Al Fayed Jit, 19.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Ayesha Siddika passed the order following a police petition, said Prosecution Sub-Inspector Abu Bakkar Siddiq.

Earlier, investigation officer SI Md Zakir Al Ahsan of Aminbazar Police Camp under Savar Model Police Station sought 10 days' remand for the two accused.
In the petition, the officer said the accused needed to be interrogated to ensure a proper investigation, uncover the circumstances surrounding the killing, recover weapons used in the attack and identify those involved.
Defence lawyers sought cancellation of the remand and bail for the accused, while the prosecution opposed the pleas. After hearing both sides, the court granted a five-day remand for each.
With the latest orders, 12 accused have been arrested in the case, according to a prosecution source.
According to the case statement, an argument broke out around 7:30pm on 5 September over the parking of an auto-rickshaw in front of an auto garage in Savar's Bordebi Westpara area.
Altaf intervened to stop the argument but came under attack by the accused, according to the complaint
He then took shelter at his son Ariful Islam's business establishment, Grand Fashion. Around 8:10pm, the accused allegedly went there armed with local weapons and attacked him.
The accused allegedly beat Altaf with rods, pipes, hammers, and sticks, leaving him critically injured. When his son came to his rescue, they allegedly attacked him with sharp weapons.
The attackers also allegedly vandalised the business, causing damage worth Tk5 lakh, and stole Tk2.2 lakh from the cash box, the case statement added.
The injured were later taken to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared Altaf dead. His son was admitted in critical condition.

Yesterday, the court placed three more accused -- Rakib Mia, Sabbir Ahmed and Wasim -- on five-day remand and sent Kashem Ali and Dadi Al Fayed Jit to jail.
The court had also placed six other accused on five-day remand and two on three-day remand on 8 September. The prime accused, Jahurul, was placed on five-day remand on 7 September.
