Purbachal plot scam: Verdict in case against Rehana, Tulip, Azmina, Bobby, 16 others on 1 Dec

A Dhaka court has scheduled 1 December for delivering the verdict in a corruption case filed over alleged irregularities in Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk)'s plot allocation against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina's sister Sheikh Rehana, niece British MP Tulip Rizwana Siddiq, and 18 others.
The date was set today (25 November) after the prosecution and defence completed their arguments before Judge Md Rabiul Alam of Dhaka's Special Judge Court-4, confirmed Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) prosecutor Khan Md Moinul Hasan (Lipon).
Rajuk member Khurdhid Alam, currently in custody, was produced before the court, and his lawyer argued for his acquittal. Other accused individuals remain absconding.
The accused also include Sheikh Hasina's children Sajeeb Wazed Joy and Saima Wazed Putul, Sheikh Rehana's children Radwan Mujib Siddiq and Azmina Siddiq, several government and Rajuk officials.
Earlier, on 18 November, the court concluded the testimony phase after recording statements from 32 witnesses.
In January this year, the Anti-Corruption Commission filed six separate cases, accusing the individuals of abuse of power and irregularities in the allocation of government plots under the Purbachal New Town Project.
On 23 November, a Dhaka court has fixed 27 November for delivering verdicts in three separate corruption cases filed over alleged irregularities in Rajuk's plot allocation against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy and daughter Saima Wazed Putul, and 44 others.
The case proceedings are underway at Dhaka's Special Judge Court-5 of Judge Md Abdullah Al Mamun.
Earlier, on 17 November, the court completed recording testimonies in the three cases. A total of 91 witnesses testified in the cases.
Earlier, on 31 July, the court framed charges and ordered the trial to begin. Arrest warrants were issued for the accused who were absent during the charge hearing.
