Purbachal plot scam: Security heightened at court ahead of verdict against Rehana, Tulip and Hasina
Police checkpoints have been established at the entrance, and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel have been deployed to bolster security
Security has been beefed up in the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court area today (1 December), as the court is set to deliver its verdict in a corruption case involving alleged irregularities in Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk) plot allocations against 17 accused, including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, her sister Sheikh Rehana, and Rehana's daughter British MP Tulip Siddiq.
Judge Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun of Dhaka Special Judge Court-5 is scheduled to pronounce the judgment around 11am.
Since this morning, heightened security measures have been evident at the court. Police checkpoints have been established at the entrance, and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel have been deployed to bolster security.
Nasar Ahmed, ADC (Administration) of the Prosecution Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, told The Business Standard, "In addition to our regular members, an extra two platoons of police have been deployed. Two platoons of BGB members are on duty.
"Furthermore, police and RAB members are patrolling the periphery. So far, there are no security concerns. We are being vigilant."
Police patrols and surveillance have also been intensified at key points within the court area and in the surrounding neighbourhoods, with checkpoints set up across the capital.
Earlier today, at around 9:30am, Mohammad Khurshid Alam, former member (Estate and Land) of Rajuk, the sole accused currently in custody in this case, was brought to court.
The date for the verdict was fixed on 25 November, after both the prosecution and defence concluded their arguments before the court.
