Fakhrul acquitted in 2013 attempted murder case
The trial of the other accused will continue, says Fakhrul’s lawyer

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has been acquitted in a case filed at Ramna Model Police Station in 2013 on charges of attempted murder and obstructing police duties.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Zakir Hossain's court delivered the order this afternoon (31 August) after a hearing, confirmed Fakhrul's lawyer, Syed Zainal Abedin Mezbah.
He said Ramna police filed the case against Fakhrul and 27 others on 2 March 2013.
Later that same year, the investigating officer pressed charges against 21 individuals, including Fakhrul.
"We then challenged the charges against Fakhrul in the High Court, which ordered the cancellation of his part of the charges. Acting on that directive, the magistrate's court has now acquitted him," Mezbah added.
However, the trial of the other accused will continue, he said.
According to the case statement, at around 5pm on 2 March 2013, leaders and activists of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party and its affiliated organisations held a protest rally in front of the BNP's central office.
It adds that after the rally, Fakhrul and others allegedly obstructed police duties at the Moghbazar intersection in a group.
They were also accused of throwing bricks, hurling cocktails and bombs, and firing shots with the intent to kill police and members of the public.
