The convict Gani Khan, 50, hails from Goailpota village in Nagarkanda upazila.

Public Prosecutor Rabbani said based on extensive testimony and evidence, the judge found the accused guilty and sentenced him to life imprisonment.

The accused was present in court during the pronouncement of the verdict and was subsequently taken to the district jail, he added.

According to court sources, the incident occurred on 20 April 2019, when the victim's husband was working abroad. The father-in-law raped her, and the matter became public when the woman became pregnant.

Subsequently, on 28 June of the same year, the victim's brother-in-law filed a case with  Nagarkanda Police Station under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.
