Mamun murder: 4, including 2 shooters, sent to jail after remand
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Arifur Rahman passed the order yesterday
A court has ordered four accused to be sent to jail after remand in connection with the murder of top-listed criminal Tarik Saif Mamun, who was gunned down in broad daylight in front of the Dhaka National Medical College Hospital in Old Dhaka earlier this month.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Arifur Rahman passed the order yesterday (20 November), following a hearing.
The accused sent to jail are Md Faruk Hossain Faisal, Robin Ahmed Pias, Md Rubel, and Shamim Ahmed.
After a five-day remand, the police produced the four accused in court on Thursday.
During the hearing, Faruk Hossain Faisal, Robin Ahmed Pias, and Md Rubel requested to record voluntary confessional statements with the investigating officer, but later refused to give statements.
The court then ordered all four, including Shamim Ahmed, to be sent to jail.
The murder case was filed on 15 November by Bilkis Akhter Ripa, the wife of the deceased Mamun, at Sutrapur Police Station. The case names 10–12 people as accused.
According to the case statement, Mamun, 55, a resident of Lakshmipur Sadar upazila, was shot dead in front of Dhaka National Medical College Hospital in Old Dhaka's Sutrapur area around 11am on 10 November.
During interrogation, the suspects confessed that Robin and Faruk shot Mamun multiple times to ensure his death, acting on orders from "Rony Bhai". Police later recovered bullets used in the killing from Yusuf Jibon's residence in Rayer Bazaar, Mohammadpur.
According to DB, the killing stemmed from an ongoing feud between underworld rivals Emon and Mamun, notorious figures in Old Dhaka's crime world.
DB officials identified the mastermind behind the murder as Roni, a former grocery shop owner turned gangster living in Dhaka's Kafrul and a close associate of gangster Emon.
Roni, who remains on the run, allegedly paid Tk2 lakh and supplied weapons to carry out the murder.
