Jubo League leader Sobhan Kazi placed on 5-day remand in July Uprising murder case
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Kamal Uddin passed the order after a hearing, allowing part of a seven-day remand sought by the investigation officer Mrityunjoy Pandit Mithun, said court sources.
A Dhaka court today (5 August) placed Abdus Sobhan Kazi, vice-president of Uttara Thana Jubo League and convener of Faridpur district Awami Matsyajibi League, on a five-day remand in a case over the killing of a man during the July Uprising in 2024.

The remand petition said Sobhan had disclosed information during preliminary questioning about the incident and several absconding suspects. However, he was unable to provide their full identities, making it impossible to arrest them.

The investigator also said further interrogation was needed to verify the accused's full identity and address and to identify and arrest other absconding and unidentified suspects in the case.
According to the case statement, Al Amin Khalifa was killed, and several others were injured on 19 July 2024 when peaceful protesters participating in the Student Against Discrimination (SAD) came under attack and gunfire in the Uttara West police station area. The victim's brother, Badal Khalifa, later filed the case.
Sobhan was arrested on 4 August 2026 from a flat in the Swarnalata Bhaban adjacent to the Banani Police Station Officers' Mess.
Police said they seized a SUV car, two iPhones and five Bangladeshi passports issued in his name during the arrest.
