Janata Bank EDF loan fraud: Salman F Rahman placed on a 4-day remand
According to case documents, a few people including Salman F Rahman, allegedly arranged the approval and disbursement of loans through Janata Bank's local office in Dhaka, including Export Development Fund (EDF) facilities, in favour of a newly formed company named Skynet Apparels Limited.
A Dhaka court has placed Salman F Rahman, former prime minister Sheikh Hasina's industry and investment adviser and Beximco Group Vice Chairman, on a four-day remand.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz passed the order today (26 January), confirmed ACC Public Prosecutor Tarikul Islam.
Earlier, the investigating officer of the case produced the accused before the court and sought a five-day remand. After the hearing, the court granted a four-day remand for the accused.
According to case documents, a few people including Salman F Rahman, allegedly arranged the approval and disbursement of loans through Janata Bank's local office in Dhaka, including Export Development Fund (EDF) facilities, in favour of a newly formed company named Skynet Apparels Limited.
Despite the company's directors having no prior business experience, they allegedly created "accommodation bills" by showing fictitious import-export transactions among themselves through Bangladesh Bank Letter of Credit (BBLC).
They have been accused of failing to repatriate the export proceeds amounting to $15,55,465 and of misappropriating and laundering a total of $1,47,29,340, which is equivalent to about Tk136.98 crore based on the average exchange rate in 2022.
The allegations further said that the money was laundered through transfer, conversion, and layering processes.
Md Mahabub Morshed, assistant director of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the case on 3 November 2025 against Salman F Rahman, along with 21 others.
