Jahalam case: HC verdict on compensation on Sept 29
Jahalam had been in jail for three years for wrongful accusation in cases filed by ACC
The High Court has set September 29 to deliver the verdict on the ruling for compensation to a Tangail jute mill worker named Jahalam, who had been in jail for three years after being wrongfully accused in cases filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
According to the court schedule published on Wednesday, the case has been placed on top of the agenda for September 29, for a High Court (HC) bench comprising of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahsan and Justice KM Kamrul Kader.
Lawyer Md Khurshid Alam Khan moved for the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), while Deputy Attorney General Barrister ABM Abdullah Al Mahmud Bashar represented the state.

BracBank Ltd was represented by lawyer Md Asaduzzaman, and Barrister Sheikh Mohammad Zakir Hossain stood for Sonali Bank.
The case was put on case awaiting verdict (CAV) after the hearing on February 12, which means the judgement was reserved for any subsequent day.
Earlier on July 11, the ACC submitted a report to the HC explaining the wrongful accusation of Jahalam in 26 cases.
The report detailed the negligence of the ACC and bank officials, and the involvement of a gang of embezzlers.
The ACC filed 33 cases over the embezzlement of Tk18 crore from Sonali Bank by cheque fraud. The lawsuits were filed against a man named Salek. However, Jahalam was shown arrested in 26 cases even though the police indicted Salek in 26 cases.
Jahalam's misery came to light when a national daily ran a report titled "Wrongfully accused in 33 cases, I'm Jahalam, not Salek."
Last year, Amit Dasgupta, a lawyer of the Supreme Court presented the report at court. Meanwhile, jute mill worker Jahalam had served three years behind bars.
The HC later issued a suo moto rule and heard the explanations of four people, including the representative of the ACC chairman, over the 26 cases.
The HC granted bail to Jahalam and continued the hearing on updates of the ACC investigation.
Car driver Russel's compensation verdict
The verdict of the HC rule regarding compensation of Tk1 crore to the private car driver Russel, who lost his leg after a Green Line Paribahan bus ran him over, will be announced on September 29.
The bench of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahsan and Justice KM Kamrul Quader, on Wednesday, set September 29 for the verdict announcement.
Earlier, the hearing on the rule ended on March 5.
