Aminul Haque Sardar of Manikganj, who is accused in 30 cases for embezzling money, has been denied bail by the High Court. He is involved in the Jahalam case, over the jute mill worker from Tangail who was wrongly jailed instead of Salek of Thakurgaon. This case involves the embezzling of more than Tk 18 crore from the bank.

However, the hearing on his bail application has been adjourned till regular court reopens.

Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder's virtual High Court bench passed the order on Tuesday.

Advocate Abdur Razzak and Advocate Rokeya Akhter represented the accused. Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan stood for the Anti Corruption Commission. Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik represented the state.

On April 10, 2012 the ACC filed a case at Dhanmondi Police Station alleging embezzlement of bank money. The commission filed a charge-sheet on February 28, 2015.

After further investigation, a supplementary charge sheet was filed on January 14, 2019. One arrested individual named Nazrul Islam alias Safdar Hossain alias Sagar Ahmed, son of Abbas Ali of Tetamar Baraidiara village in Manikganj, gave a confessional statement in court. His statement described embezzlement of Tk 20 crore from 10 banks.

Based on this information, the ACC filed a chargesheet against Aminul Haque Sardar, son of late Shamsul Haque Bachchu of Uttarkrishnapur village in Manikganj. There have been several cases against the accused for embezzling the money.

Aminul then surrendered in a Dhaka court on April 1 last year. He has been imprisoned ever since. He then applied for bail at the Dhaka Special Judge court in the cases filed at Dhanmondi and Rampura police stations, the court rejected it and issued orders on January 20 and February 10.

Aminul then applied to the High Court. According to his application, 30 cases have been filed against him. He has been granted bail in 14 cases.

A report published in a national daily under the headline 'Wrongly accused jailed in 33 cases' alleges that an innocent person named Jahalam was framed. After bringing the report to the notice of the High Court, the court on February 3 last year acquitted Jahalam and ordered his release.

Jahalam was released from jail that night. Following this, the rule issued by the High Court to compensate Jahlam has been awaiting verdict any day.
