Illegal wealth: HC verdict on Haji Salim’s appeal against jail sentence due 9 March
A lower court sentenced Haji Salim to 13 years of jail on 27 April, 2008 in the case
The High Court (HC) is due to deliver its verdict, on 9 March, on the appeal filed by Awami League leader Haji Mohammad Salim MP against his 13-year jail sentence for amassing illegal wealth.
The virtual bench of Justice Md Moinul Islam Chowdhury and Justice AKM Zahirul Huq on Wednesday kept the judgment on curia advisari vult (a Latin legal term meaning court awaits judgement), for the day, as the rehearing of the appeal was concluded.
Md Khurshid Alam Khan, lawyers of the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) told this to reporters.

Mohammad Khurshid Alam Khan moved for the ACC while Sayeed Ahmed Raza represented Haji Salim and assistant attorney general Tamanna Ferdous for the state.
The ACC filed the corruption case against Haji Salim with Lalbagh Police Station on 24 October, 2007 on charges of amassing illegal assets.
A lower court sentenced Haji Salim to 13 years of jail on 27 April, 2008 in this case.
Haji Salim appealed against the verdict with the HC on 25 October, 2009. On 2 January, 2011, the HC acquitted Haji Salim.
Then, the ACC appealed against the verdict to the Appellate Division. The Appellate Division in an order on 12 January, 2015, scrapped the HC verdict and directed a hearing in the HC again.
Later on 11 November, 2020, the High Court summoned judicial documents related to Haji Salim's case for a rehearing of his appeal against a jail sentence.
