Gazipur former mayor M A Mannan

The High Court on Tuesday issued a rule asking the authorities concerned why jail term of former Gazipur City Corporation mayor Professor MA Mannan should not be increased in money embezzlement case.

The HC bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Mohi Uddin Shamim passed the order today after hearing of an appeal filed by Anti-Corruption Commission. 

The court also fixed 11 April for next hearing.

Lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan stood for ACC in the court while Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik, Assistant Attorney Generals Mahjabin Rabbani Deepa and Anna Khanam Kali represented the state.

A Dhaka court sentenced MA Mannan to one year in jail in the corruption case. 

The court also fined him Tk 50 lakh. 

The court also acquitted another accused Golam Kibria in the case.
