Hadi murder: Probe report submission deadline deferred for the 11th time
The shift to a further investigation came after Abdullah Al Zaber, the member secretary of Inqilab Mancha and complainant of the case, filed a no-confidence or “naraji” petition on 15 January
A Dhaka court today (2 April) deferred the deadline for the submission of the further investigation report in the murder case of Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson for political-cultural platform Inqilab Mancha.
Metropolitan Magistrate Joshita Islam of the Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court fixed 19 April as the new date for submitting the report after the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) failed to produce it in today's session.
With this latest extension, the investigating officer has been granted additional time for the 11th time in this case, confirmed Sub-Inspector Md Rokonuzzaman of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police's prosecution wing.
The shift to a further investigation came after Abdullah Al Zaber, the member secretary of Inqilab Mancha and complainant of the case, filed a no-confidence or "naraji" petition on 15 January.
The petition followed a charge sheet submitted on 6 January by the previous investigating officer, Inspector Faisal Ahmed of the Detective Branch (DB), which named 17 individuals.
Upon the complainant's objection, the court directed the CID to conduct a more thorough probe.
According to the case statement, Sharif Osman Bin Hadi had been serving as the spokesperson for Inqilab Mancha, a platform formed in the aftermath of the July Uprising.
On 12 December, at approximately 2:20pm, assailants on a motorcycle shot Hadi in the Box Culvert Road area under Paltan Model Police Station.
He sustained critical bullet wounds and was initially treated at Dhaka Medical College Hospital and later at Evercare Hospital. As his condition deteriorated, he was flown to Singapore by air ambulance on 15 December for advanced treatment.
After a week-long battle for his life, he passed away on 18 December.
The legal proceedings began on 14 December when Abdullah Al Jaber filed an attempted murder case at Paltan Police Station. Following Hadi's death, the charges were formally upgraded to a murder case.
