Ex-CAAB chief engineer sent to jail in graft case
The ACC said Habibur is part of a fraud ring and may influence witnesses or destroy evidence if released on bail, making his detention necessary for a fair investigation.
A Dhaka court today (28 January) sent Md Habibur Rahman, former chief engineer of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB), to jail in connection with an ongoing corruption case.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz passed the order following a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Confirming the matter, ACC lawyer Delwar Jahan Rumi told The Business Standard that the accused was produced before the court, where ACC Assistant Director Md Saidur Rahman sought his detention in jail. "After the hearing, the court granted the request."

According to the ACC, Habibur is a named accused in a case filed over irregularities and corruption in the Cox's Bazar Airport runway expansion project.
The commission stated that there is a strong possibility the accused could influence witnesses and obstruct the investigation if released on bail.
