Ex-additional IGP Iqbal Bahar sent to jail in Shahinur Begum Murder case
After hearing the petition, Metropolitan Magistrate (MM) Jewel Rana, on behalf of the CMM, ordered to send him to jail custody

A Dhaka court today (21 June) ordered to send former Additional Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Iqbal Bahar to jail in connection with hawker Shahinur Begum Murder case of Jatrabari Police Station.
Police produced the former additional IGP before the court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) with a prayer for confining him into jail till the end of investigation into the case.
After hearing the petition, Metropolitan Magistrate (MM) Jewel Rana, on behalf of the CMM, ordered to send him to jail custody.
Iqbal Bahar was arrested by a team of the Detective Branch (DB) of police from the city's Baily road area last evening (20 June). He went on retirement from the police service in 2019 as additional IGP (Telecom).
According to the case statement, Shahinur Begum, a hawker of Jatrabari Kajla area, was shot at by the accused persons on 22 July while she was supplying drinking water to the protesters of the anti-discrimination students' movement.
She was taken to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) in a critical condition on that day, where she succumbed to her injuries on 31 August.
Habeja Akhter, daughter of the victim, filed a case with Jatrabari Police Station accusing 297 people including the ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina on 14 November 2024.
Iqbal Bahar was the accused no-26 in that case.
