DIG Mizan’s nephew sent to jail

Suspended police official Mizanur Rahman’s nephew Mahmudul Hasan has been sent to jail over corruption charges on Thursday.

Judge Imrul Quayes passed the order as Mahmudul -- a Sub-Inspector (SI) of police – surrendered before the court with a bail plea.

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) lawyers argued the plea. The SI’s lawyer Kazi Najibullah Hiru told the court that his client has been accused by the ACC for amassing wealth beyond known source of income. However, he was not served with any notice.

“ACC is investigating the case and there are specific charges against Mahmudul,” lawyer of the anti-corruption watchdog Mosharraf Hossain argued.

After hearing, the court dismissed the bail plea and send the SI to jail.

On July 2, a Dhaka court sent suspended DIG Mizanur Rahman to jail after rejecting his bail prayer in a corruption case.

On June 24, the ACC filed the case against Mizan, his wife Sohelia Anar Ratna and nephew Mahmudul Hasan on charges of amassing over Tk 3 crore beyond known source of income.
