Dhamaka Shopping chairman sent to jail
The order was issued by Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rakibul Hasan today (6 July)

A Dhaka court has sent Mujtaba Ali, chairman of the e-commerce platform Dhamaka Shopping, to jail following his recent arrest.
The order was issued by Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rakibul Hasan today (6 July).
Confirming the matter, Sub-Inspector (SI) Md Mostafa Hossain of the Non-GRO Section, Bhatara Police Station, told The Business Standard that Mujtaba was produced before the court under Section 54 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
"Police sought permission to show him arrested and plead for his imprisonment, which the court granted," the SI added.
According to the plea, last night, victims of the e-commerce scam detained Mujtaba and later handed him over to the police. Upon reviewing the Criminal Data Management System (CDMS), police found a prior six-month conviction in a cheque fraud case in Lakshmipur against him.
The plea also stated that following his detention, information spread rapidly across social media, creating tension in the Bhatara area. Due to public unrest, authorities deemed it necessary to place him in custody.
According to media reports, Dhamaka Shopping has been accused of withholding hundreds of crores in dues to various suppliers, despite receiving advance payments from customers.
Several cases have been filed against Mujtaba and other officials for failing to deliver products or clear outstanding payments to vendors.
