Ashulia killings: Accused SI seeks to turn state witness as tribunal frames charges

Former police sub-inspector (SI) Sheikh Afzalul Haque, an accused in the Ashulia body-burning case during the July Uprising, has confessed to his involvement and sought to become a state witness.
The International Crimes Tribunal-2 today (21 August) framed charges against 16 accused in the case, paving the way for trial proceedings.
The tribunal, led by Chairman Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury, also issued arrest warrants against eight fugitives.
ICT also set 14 September for presenting opening statement and witness testimony recording as part of the trial.
Earlier, on 7 August, prosecutors Mizanul Islam and Gazi MH Tamim concluded their arguments before the tribunal. The defence presented their arguments on 13 August, after which the tribunal fixed today for the order.
