Court orders seizure of ex-MP Momtaz's 3 houses, 474 acres of land

A court has ordered the seizure of 474 acres of land and three houses belonging to former Awami League lawmaker and singer Momtaz Begum, including a five-storey property in Mohakhali, Dhaka, and two ancestral homes in Manikganj, amid ongoing investigations into money laundering allegations.
The order was issued on Tuesday by Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Foyez's court following a request from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). Bench assistant Riaz Hossain confirmed the development.
Momtaz's five-storey property in Mohakhali DOHS spans 2,500 square feet. In Manikganj, her two-storey ancestral home and a four-storey property of 2,109 square feet in Manikganj Sadar, which includes the Momtaz Eye Hospital, were also seized.
ACC Deputy Director Mohammad Sirajul Haque filed the application seeking the seizure.
The petition stated that allegations of money laundering have been made against Momtaz Begum, former MP of Manikganj-2, and other associated individuals and entities. A dedicated investigation team has been formed to probe the matter.
The application added, "Given that the investigation is ongoing, it is essential to freeze bank accounts and seize immovable assets through the court."
