A Dhaka court today (26 May) instructed the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to probe an allegation of nomination trading against 10 people, including Jatiya Party (JAPA) Chairman GM Quader, his Secretary General Mujibul Haque Chunnu and former DB Chief Md Harun-ur-Rashid.

Metropolitan Magistrate (MM) of Dhaka Masum Miah passed the order following a petition submitted by former Central Committee Member of the Party and human rights activist Naznin Sultana Tuli.

The court on 17 May fixed today for passing the order on the issue after recording the statement of the complainant in the case.

The other accused of the case are-Additional Secretary General of the Party Rezaul Karim, Central Committee Member Newaz Ali Bhuiyan, GM Quader's wife Sherifa Quader, former Deputy Commissioner (DC) of the Detective Branch (DB) of Uttara Division Md Akram, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) DB Uttara Nazmul, Sub-Inspector of the airport zonal team of the DB Pabitra Sarkar and member of Dhaka City North Unit Md Saidul Islam.

According to the court sources, the accused persons under the leadership of GM Quader were involved in nomination business during the dummy parliament elections in 2024 and demanded Taka 50 lakhs to Naznin Sultana Tuli to get party nomination.
After receiving a mobile message in this regard from the quarter, Tuli protested the move against them in a central committee meeting and a caustic situation erupted there.

Later, the party leadership with the help of police administration entered into the residence of Tuli after breaking her main door at about 8.30pm on 10 October in 2023 to take revenge on her. They also looted furniture, seven tolas of gold ornaments, cash money amounting to Tk3.65 lakh, important documents, mobile sets and laptop from the house at that time.

The quarter also threatened to kill her later while she tried to arrange a press conference against the accused on this issue, the court sources added.
