Court orders to interrogate Chinmoy Das at jail gate in two cases

A Chattogram court has granted police two days' permission to interrogate former Iskcon leader Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari at the jail gate in connection with the murder of lawyer Saiful Islam Alif and for allegedly dishonouring the national flag.
The order was issued today (18 May) by Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate SM Alauddin, Assistant Public Prosecutor advocate Raihanul Wazed Chowdhury told the media.
Raihanul said, "Police sought one day each for interrogation in both the murder and sedition cases. After reviewing the petitions, the court granted two days of jail-gate interrogation."
A sedition case has been filed with Kotwali Police Station against Chinmoy for allegedly desecrating the national flag during a rally in Chattogram New Market area last year.
He was also shown arrested recently in the advocate Alif murder case as per investigation report of IO.
Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested Chinmoy from Dhaka airport on 25 November last year and was produced before a Chattogram court on the following day.
On 26 November, the court sent Chinmoy to jail after rejecting his bail plea in the sedition case.
Following rejection of bail petition, his supporters staged a rowdy protest in and around the court building premises. At one stage of triangular clashes between Chinmoy supporters, police and protesters against rowdy demonstrations in and outside the court building, advocate Alif was beaten and stabbed to death.
A High Court bench granted bail to Chinmoy on 30 April while Chamber Judge later stayed the bail granting the appeal filed by the state side.
