Court imposes travel ban, seizes assets of ex-Pirojpur disctrict council member Abul Kalam Azad

A Dhaka court has issued a travel ban and ordered the seizure of assets belonging to Sheikh Abul Kalam Azad, former member of the Pirojpur district council, in a corruption case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Sabbir Foyez passed the order today (14 October) following two ACC petitions submitted by ACC Deputy Assistant Director Mohammad Manjurul Islam.
The ACC accused Azad of illegally acquiring assets worth Tk86.68 lakh, disproportionate to his known income, and that he might attempt to flee abroad. The court, therefore, restricted his travel and ordered the seizure of multiple properties in Dhaka, Khulna, and Narayanganj owned by him and his wife Nasrin Nahar Shila.
The ACC said the move was necessary to ensure a fair and uninterrupted investigation into the corruption allegations.
