Court imposes travel ban on NSI Additional Director Azizur Rahman, wife
Azizur is under investigation for abuse of power, money laundering, and acquiring assets disproportionate to known sources of income
A Dhaka court has imposed a travel ban on Additional Director of the National Security Intelligence (NSI) Azizur Rahman, and his wife, Amatus Sami, in connection with an ongoing investigation by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
The order was issued today (8 February) by the Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge's Court, presided over by Md Sabbir Faiz, following an application filed by the ACC.
Md Riaz Hossain, bench assistant of the concerned court, confirmed the matter.
On behalf of the ACC, its Assistant Director SM Mamunur Rashid submitted the application seeking restrictions on their overseas travel.
According to the application, Azizur is under investigation on charges of abuse of power, money laundering, and the acquisition of assets disproportionate to known sources of income in both his name and that of his wife.
The ACC stated that during the investigation it was learned that Azizur and his wife could leave the country and take refuge abroad at any time.
It noted that failure to question them and collect relevant information and evidence would make it difficult to substantiate the allegations. Consequently, the commission deemed it necessary to impose a ban on their foreign travel.
