A court today ordered to freeze Tk54.84-crore BO share of Union Bank PLC in the name of Morsalin Islam, son of former public administration secretary Md Khairul Islam, over graft allegations.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib passed the order, allowing a plea of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

ACC Deputy Assistant Director Sabikun Nahar, in the plea, said the commission is probing allegations of taking a loan of Tk10 crore from Basic Bank by keeping fake properties as collateral and embezzling the fund.

"Khairul Islam, while being the private secretary-1 of then prime minister, took house loan of Tk4 crore in the names of his two then minor children by misusing his power and through irregularities. He, after that, transferred the money in his name and embezzled that. So, the BO share of Morsalin should be frozen," the ACC plea said.
