Court bars ex-MP Sanjida Khanam, ex-secy Nazrul Islam from leaving country

A Dhaka court has imposed a ban on foreign travel for former Awami League lawmaker of Dhaka-4 Sanjida Khanam and former secretary of the Education and ICT Division Nazrul Islam Khan amid ongoing investigations into corruption allegations.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiez passed the orders today (1 March) following two separate petitions filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), confirmed Bench Assistant Md Riaz Hossain.
ACC Assistant Director Md Ismail Hossain submitted the applications seeking the travel bans.
According to the petition against Sanjida Khanam, an inquiry officer has been appointed to investigate allegations that she acquired wealth beyond known sources of income. The investigation is ongoing.
The petition stated that there is information suggesting she may leave the country, and a travel ban is necessary to ensure a fair inquiry.
In a separate petition, the ACC said an inquiry officer has been appointed to investigate allegations against Nazrul Islam Khan.
The allegations include embezzlement of crores of taka by appointing unqualified persons as chairman of the NGO Uddipan, money laundering abroad, bribery, transfer trading, and acquiring illegal wealth through irregularities and corruption.
The petition stated that there is information suggesting Nazrul Islam Khan may flee the country. It argued that a travel ban is necessary to ensure a proper investigation.
