Cop remanded for 'leaking information' to India

A Jashore court today placed constable Deb Prasad Saha on five-day remand in a treason case filed for allegedly leaking confidential national information to India.
Confirming the matter to The Business Standard, court inspector Roksana Khatun said, Judge Saifuddin Husain of the senior judicial magistrate's court passed the order.
Earlier, on Wednesday (December 18), Mamun Khan, officer-in-charge of Benapole Police Station, produced Saha before the court with a 10-day remand prayer.

Deb Prasad Saha, a constable of the Uttara Armed Police Battalion, was arrested on December 15.
The case accusing him of treason was filed the same day.
According to the case statement, Saha was deployed at the migration department in Benapole between December 27, 2014 and August 17, 2018.
During that time, he frequently crossed the no-man's land and went to India. He had close ties with two members of the Indian police.
In December last year, he transported a pen-drive containing confidential information of Bangladesh. After 15 days, he transported another pen-drive containing confidential information, after obtaining the device from a special force member, the case statement said.
