Contempt petition filed against Sarjis over remarks on High Court

A contempt of court petition has been filed against Sarjis Alam, chief organiser (southern region) of the National Citizen Party (NCP), over his critical remarks about the High Court.
The petition was submitted today (28 May) to the High Court bench of Justice Fahmida Khatun and Justice Mubina Asaf by lawyer Md Jasim Uddin, according to court sources.
Earlier, on 24 May, a legal notice was served to Sarjis in response to a Facebook post by him, in which he questioned the legitimacy of the court's authority.
The legal notice demanded that he publicly apologise through a written statement to the chief justice and a press conference for his remarks about the High Court.
As he failed to comply, the contempt of court petition was filed today.
Sarjis' comment came after HC's dismissal of a writ petition regarding the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) mayoral post.
