A Cumilla court today (6 May) issued an arrest warrant against former LGRD minister Tajul Islam and 15 others.

Advocate Quaimul Haque Ringku, on behalf of the prosecution lawyer, confirmed the matter to media.

He said the court also issued arrest warrant against ex-LGRD minister Tajul Islam's brother-in-law and Laksham upazila vice-chairman Mohabbat Ali, Laksham Municipality mayor Professor Abul Khair, Councilor Mohammad Ullah, Bipulasa union chairman Iqbal Mahmood, Gobindapur union chairman Nizam Uddin Shamim, Kandirpar union chairman Omar Faruque, Councilor Khalilur Rahman, Monoharganj upazila vice-chairman and minister's nephew Amirul Islam, Tajul's development coordinator Kamal Hossain, Jahangir Alam, Ajkora union chairman Nazrul Islam, Ruhul Amin, Abdul Kader Shahin and Kawsar Ahmed.

According to the case details, Laksham Poura BNP Joint Convener Monir Ahmed filed a petition to a court on August 27, 2024 against 15 identified and 90 unidentified persons on charges of extortion, vandalism, looting and attempt to murder him along with his family members.

It said the petitioner also alleged that the suspects engaged in extortion, vandalism, looting and attempted murder at night on 3 August 2024 on the road in front of Bypass Market in Laksham pourasava area.

They also visited victim's house at Nasratpur village of the upazila and demanded extortion and engaged in violence and attempted to murder him and his family members, the case details said.

Senior Judicial Magistrate Didarul Alam took the allegation into cognisance and ordered Laksham police officer-in-charge to submit a report after investigation, it said.

Judge Farhana Sultana issued an arrest warrant against Tajul and 15 others after receiving investigation report with evidences of their involvement in the allegations from Laksham police station.
