Arms case against Anisul Huq: Charge hearing deferred to 26 October
The former law minister was produced before the court from jail as the hearing was deferred because the designated judge was on leave.
A Dhaka court today (24 September) deferred the hearing on framing charges against former law minister Anisul Huq in an arms case filed with Banani Police Station to 26 October.
The hearing was scheduled before Dhaka Special Tribunal-4. However, Judge Moin Uddin Chowdhury was on leave, so Acting Judge Mosaddeq Minhaj set the new date, confirmed court bench assistant Golam Nabi.
Anisul Huq was produced before the court from jail during the hearing.
According to the case statement, Anisul had a pistol licensed in his name under Banani Police Station.
The home ministry suspended all firearm licences issued for personal security between 6 January 2009 and 5 August 2024 and ordered licence holders to surrender the weapons by 3 September 2024.
However, the case statement alleges that Anisul did not surrender his firearm or inform the police station between 4 September 2024 and 5 May 2025.
Police later found no one at his address and no information that the firearm had been surrendered, according to the complaint. Investigators also found no record of him purchasing ammunition, it said.
Banani Police Sub-Inspector Md Zain Alam Dulal filed the case against Anisul over the alleged violation.
Following an investigation, Banani Police Sub-Inspector Md Iyadul Haque submitted a charge sheet against him on 29 August 2025.
Anisul was arrested from Dhaka's Sadarghat area on 13 August 2024 after police received information that he was allegedly attempting to flee by waterway.
He was subsequently taken on remand in several murder and attempted murder cases and remains in jail.
