July Uprising murder: Ex-SI Sajjad's bail stayed, ordered to surrender

The Appellate Division's Chamber Judge Court on Wednesday (20 August) stayed the High Court bail of former Jatrabari police sub-inspector Sajjad Uz Zaman in a case over the 2024 July Uprising and ordered him to surrender.
Chamber Judge of the Supreme Court's Appellate Division Justice Md Rezaul Haque passed the order on Wednesday (20 August) morning following a state petition seeking suspension of the bail.
The order comes in the backdrop of families of July martyrs and victims staged protests at the Secretariat demanding the police officer's arrest.
They had issued an ultimatum to the government to meet their demands, including an explanation from Law Adviser Asif Nazrul.
The families demanded that Asif Nazrul explain to the chief adviser by next Sunday why the accused in the July killings are being granted bail and that this explanation be presented to the nation.
