Court denies bail to Buet student Shreesanth Roy in cyber security case, adds religious offence clause
According to case sources, the accused used the pseudonym ‘Weekly Service 923’ from 8 June to 7 September this year to post writings targeting Muslim women and Islam

A clause concerning the hurting of religious sentiments has been added to the case filed by Chawkbazar Police Station against Shreesanth Roy, a student of the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet), who was arrested under the Cyber Security Ordinance.
The court also rejected his bail application and ordered him to be sent to prison.
The order was issued today (23 October) following a hearing before Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mahabubur Rahman.
Earlier, the accused was produced in court from prison. Sub-Inspector Shahjahan Siraj, the investigating officer of the case, applied for the addition of Section 295A of the Penal Code.
The court granted the application after hearing the submission.
The bail application was denied as no defence lawyers were present to represent the accused.
Dhaka Metropolitan Court Public Prosecutor Omar Faruk Faruki confirmed the development.
Yesterday (22 October), the investigating officer had produced the accused in court and sought his continued detention. The court remanded him to prison and set 23 October for the bail hearing.
According to case sources, Shreesanth Roy, while residing at Buet's Ahsanullah Hall, allegedly used the pseudonym 'Weekly Service 923' from 8 June to 7 September to post writings targeting Muslim women and Islam.
The posts were described as obscene, vulgar, and religiously offensive. After a prolonged investigation, the true identity behind the pseudonym was confirmed as Shreesanth Roy. His remarks are alleged to have hurt the religious sentiments of Buet students and devout Muslims.
The complaint was filed yesterday by Buet security guard Md Afghan Hossain, accusing the student of religious defamation.
