Ex-NBR official Matiur, wife put on remand in graft case
Matiur Rahman became a subject of controversy last year due to an expensive sacrificial goat booked by his son
Former National Board of Revenue (NBR) member Matiur Rahman, infamous for the "goat scandal," and his wife, former Raipura Upazila Parishad chairperson Laila Kaniz, have been placed on a one-day remand each in a case filed for concealing information and acquiring assets illegally.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Monirul Islam issued the order today (14 September) after a hearing.
Earlier, on 13 August, the investigation officer of the case, Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Deputy Director Sabikun Nahar, applied for a three-day remand for the accused, following which a Dhaka court scheduled a new date for the remand hearing.

Today, ACC Public Prosecutor Md Tarikul Islam argued in favour of the remand, while the accused's lawyer Wahiduzzaman Liton Dhali requested bail. After hearing both sides, the court approved a one-day remand for the couple.
The case was filed on 6 January against Matiur's daughter Farzana Rahman for allegedly concealing information on Tk2.45 crore and illegal acquisition of assets exceeding Tk53.41 crore. Motiur Rahman was made a co-accused in the case.
The Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested Matiur and his wife Laila Kaniz in the city's Bashundhara area on 14 January this year. They have since been in custody, with remand orders issued in multiple cases.
