"Some DGHS officials and government hospitals allegedly embezzled a big amount of money through supplying and purchasing low-quality medical equipment including masks and personal protective equipment (PPEs) for Covid-19 treatment," read the letter.

"Some of the medical equipment was transported using the services of Jadid Automobiles. Shamimuzzaman has been asked to appear before the ACC to give a statement on the complaints along with the relevant records – if there is any," it added.

Also, the anti-graft body sent letters to the DGHS and the Directorate General of Drug Administration (DGDA), asking for records and documents in connection with the investigation, by September 8.
