ACC approves charge sheet against ex-MP Nurunnabi, 17 others over Tk35 lakh embezzlement
The ACC alleges Tk31.72 lakh was withdrawn for 11 projects without any work, while Tk3.31 lakh was misappropriated after four projects were only partially completed.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has approved a charge sheet against former lawmaker Nurunnabi Chowdhury and 17 others over the alleged embezzlement of Tk35.03 lakh allocated for government projects in Bhola's Lalmohan and Tazumuddin upazilas.
ACC Secretary Md Saidur Rahman Khan disclosed the decision at a press briefing today (23 September).
According to the ACC investigation, 356 projects were taken up under the Test Relief (TR), Food for Work (Kabikha) and Cash for Work (Kabita) programmes in the two upazilas during the 2021-22, 2022-23 and 2023-24 fiscal years.

Of these, Tk31,72,333 was allegedly withdrawn for 11 projects without any work being carried out, while another Tk3,31,000 was allegedly withdrawn after carrying out less work than specified for four projects.
The accused include Nurunnabi, former MP for Bhola-3, Lalmohan Upazila Project Implementation Officer Sohag Ghosh, Tazumuddin Upazila Project Implementation Officer Md Selim Mia, and the chairpersons of the respective projects.
The ACC said the accused acted in collusion and abused their positions to withdraw and misappropriate government funds through fraud and criminal breach of trust.
